Sebui by tacticangel Sebui by tacticangel
This is one of the historic illustrations I did back in the day for my own enjoyment. This depicts a Sebui, or a member of a large German clan... there are a few problems with it, of course, since I learned subsiquently that German top-knots were not necissarily centered and despite what you might think a great many of them were clean shaven. Still, the man on the ground is not far off of the kind of Roman Legionaires they would have killed at the time.

\"Eine faszinierende Darstellung unserer Vorfahren.\" (german) Great picture! Reminds me of school, when we translated some parts of \"De bello gallico\", especially of the parts where C. Julius Caesar battled the Suebi under their King Ariovist. ^^

Thanks! I'm not sure there are many people who would complete understand or appreciate these types of illustrations on DA, but I'm glad you found it.

As far as history goes, a lot of respect is owed to the ancient Germanic tribes. Europe would have been VERY different had the Romans not been defeated (a few decades after Ariovistus) at Teutonberg Forrest. Thermopylae preserved the West and Teutonberg safeguarded heroic warrior culture in the North of Europe... the two most defining European battles that would shape culture, religion, and politics even through the modern era.

I actually prefer all of your hand drawn stuff to the cgi that i find littering deviantart. it's nice to see that people still stick to the old methods rather than turning to photoshop at every turn ^^
