Artist's Comments

This, albeit somewhat disturbing image, was created at the request of an Imperial Guard player. I thought it was an interesting idea, one that I would like to have seen played out a little more in 40k in general. Since 40k does rely heavily on imagery that evokes certain aspects of WWII, it is strange that Pin-Ups are not displayed on certain imperial craft, most especially bombers, which I think this was meant for. The original user never did get around to putting it on his craft due to real life issues, but if anyone does find a way to get this little eagle onto the side of their bomber, I'd be very interested in seeing it.

this is the coolest idea I've seen in a long time! looks splendid :D

If I ever buy a flyer from the Imperial Navy, then I'll find a way to add this beauty to it! ;)

Yeah like the fact that the Imperial Eagle, (not in this pic, I mean the regular symbol) looks almost exactly like the Nazi Eagle.

It's a bit disturbing, but really cool at the same time :3

The Imperial Aquila is different in a few ways: It is more angular and it has a second head, which is important because it symbolises the unity of the Imperium and the Mechanicus.
The Death Korps of Krieg are Nazi like, while the Armageddon Legions are WW1 germans. The Cadians are the USA(of course the strongest..) Valhallans as russians, Tallarns look like arabians.
They took a lot of ideas from real armies, even their personalities. Death Korps are sinister and dark, Tallarns are light and fast, with turbans :)

Well... then clearly the Cadians should be painting pin-up art on their bombers, right? The Americans did it in WWII!

I never had the Cadians down as american. They're a huge great planet, I imagine there are a bunch of different accents, dialects and mini-cultures, even though it's a military fortress world.

"Earth isn't the only planet with a North.", as I recall young Christopher Eccleston saying.

Anyway. I really like this piece. For its unfluffiness (a languishing two-headed eagle-woman? "Suffer not the mutant to live!") it's a really nice image. Strategic placing of scrolls and the like is a classic pin-up move, and the way you've positioned the legs definitely brings the likes of Bettie Page to mind. You've got the gold just right there, too. Gold's a difficult colour to pull off, but the shading you've used brings it up perfectly.

Nice work. +fav!

If someone gives you a tank, you don't park it behind a nunnery. You go to WAR.

You probably wouldn't see Imperial Eagle pin-ups in any Aerounautica force because that would be considered blasphemous and sacrilege unto the Emperor's emblem (what we know as the Imperial Eagle).

I'm pretty sure the Emperor wouldn't mind the pin-up lol. But those Ecclesiarchal fanatics sure might! lol.

The Cadians are more reminescent of British Special Forces and Commandos. Not American military persay.

I imagine that you'd have to get away from the core worlds, but then you wouldn't really be fighting on the core worlds... hopefully. The Ecclesiary is kind of overplayed in its total influence in more recent times, as is most of the Inquisition. You can always hope though, and what one person sees as heresy another might not...

...I still think its a cool idea. Its not like you're going to get turned in to the host of a turnament for having heretical stuff painted on your models.
